Every year, EFFoST, the European Federation of Food Science and Technology, organizes a well visited international conference, that deals with a broad range of subjects. During this important scientific event world-renowned researchers, scientists, policy makers, professionals and students from multidisciplinary food-related fields come together to share the latest developments and form new partnerships. This year, LIFE REFRESHMENT participated at the 31st EFFoST International Conference which was held in Sitges (Spain) from November 13 – 16. The theme of the conference was ‘Food Science and Technology Challenges for the 21st Century – Research to Progress Society’ and was focused on exploring solutions to current and future challenges, such as food safety, waste reduction and sustainability, functional foods, nutrition and health.
The EFFoST International Conference was considered as an ideal platform for LIFE REFRESHMENT to meet potential stakeholders, such as universities and corporations working on waste valorization and resource efficiency, to exchange new ideas relevant for the REFRESHMENT technology with research teams and interact with policy makers. During this conference, a round table was organized by AB InBev to present and discuss the LIFE REFRESHMENT project with a number of relevant stakeholders, from both academia (f.e. University of Cadiz, Spain) and industry (f.e. DSM Food Specialties). The relevance of sustainable circular economy projects was clear for all partners, from universities developing the fundamentals to industries evaluating and implementing these type of projects to maximize resource efficiency, and potential collaborations were explored.
