AB INBEV Donates billboard space to FIFA for public health campaigns
12th May 2020: AB InBev, the global brewer, has teamed up with FIFA to convert billboard space originally for brand advertising into public health campaigns.
Billboards in Belgium’s Antwerp and Brussels areas carry FIFA’s awareness campaign on the five key tactics the public can use to tackle the spread of COVID-19. With tactics playing such a key role in football success, FIFA shows the five-step game plan to defeat the virus – hands, elbow, face, distance and feel – in line with evidence-based protective measures against COVID-19. A further billboard showing these five tactics will go live in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on 1st June.
AB InBev has donated the billboard space as part of its wider efforts to support the public health community in the fight against COVID-19, which includes producing ready-to-use disinfectant and hand sanitizer from the surplus alcohol from the brewer’s alcohol-free beers. To date in Europe over 100,000 litres of ready-to-use alcohol disinfectant and hand sanitizers have been produced and donated to hospitals, police and fire services, care homes, pharmacies and crisis centres.
“Our brands have always played a key role in culture, as shown by our Jupiler and Budweiser brands’ long-standing partnership with FIFA to surprise and delight football fans. This is why it’s right for us at the moment to work alongside our partners to focus on what’s most important: encouraging people to stay safe and supporting our communities and public health initiatives to fight the spread of COVID-19.” Said Julie Yufe, Vice President of Marketing for AB InBev in Europe.
“Football is all about teamwork, and we are proud to have teamed up with long-time FIFA World Cup Sponsor AB InBev,” said FIFA Marketing Director Jean-François Pathy. “Their donation means FIFA’s health messages can reach an even broader audience, contributing to the global fight against COVID-19.”
