Sustainable food and beverage conference

Sustainable food and beverage conference

On the 4th of November, the 4th annual Sustainable Food and Beverage Conference was held on November 7th 2017 in the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. This event was organized by the industry leading ‘Food and Drink Business Europe’, who frequently organizes food manufacturing events. This specific event was organized to bring together food and beverage manufacturers, agriculture industries, engineers etc. to share their knowledge and vision regarding sustainable food and beverage production.

The experienced speakers were representing international food and beverage companies, and put the focus on sustainability. The wider audience consisted of technical as well as non-technical people. In total, 3500 people attended this conference. In this context, Thomas Brewer, representative of the BEVERAGE project, gave a main stage presentation about the BEVERAGE technology followed by its environmental impact. The title of the presentation was: A boiling innovation enabling radical energy savings in the brewing industry (Beverage LIFE15 CCM/BE/000090).

The main message of the presentation was to raise awareness on the high energy consumption of the wort boiling step, and to show the possible energy reduction we can reach with our technology. The wort boiling step is even the largest energy consumer in the beer making process. With the subtle tweak in the wort boiling process we implement in our technology, a big positive impact on the energy usage can be achieved. It was also explained that the technology is currently being piloted in two breweries in Europe, by the support of the LIFE program. To end the presentation, a  small demonstration of the technology was realized by the speaker (photo).

The audience was very interested and main questions were related to the transferring of this technology to other industries and how they can benefit from this. Overall, attending and presenting this conference was a good step in the further communication and dissemination of our project.
